Based on the business processes, there may be cases where the items need to be registered prior to further transactions like receiving or transfer. In this article we will explain how to register items on transfer journals containing a lot of lines to be posted.
When posting the transfer journal, the error related to item registration may appear: Items must be registered first. For few items this could be done manually, however having tens or hundreds of items it is time consuming.
To register these items at once we will use the Arrival journal.
To make testing simple for this article we will set up the journal as follows:

We create the transfer line and add only two lines for this demo. And if we try to post the journal, the error will show as in the screenshot below:

Now we need to go to Inventory management -> Journal entries -> Item arrival -> Item arrival and click new to create a new arrival journal. Under the Reference section, in Reference field select Transfer and on Number field select the Transfer journal number, in this case the number is 00102 (please see the screenshot above) and click OK.

An empty journal will be created. On the Arrival journal click Functions -> Create lines:

The following screen will show up. Make sure the Initialize quantity is set to Yes and click OK.

The lines from Transfer journal will be added to the Arrival journal as seen below. Click Post and go back to Transfer journal.

On the Transfer journal click Post and it will be posted.
